MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT |
|
 |
|
|
I am proud that I did achieve finally the move of our Association from Paris after some 45 years to Geneva. We are now going toward the next generation of IH&RA for the second half of the century with a new IH&RA, more dynamic, more stable and full of resources to defend better the interest of our hospitality industry.
I am starting by changing the way of membership with fees and number of votes. Following the suggestion of the Board to create a task force to study this issue and submit their report at the beginning of June; after reviewing it, I will submit it to the Board of June and we will use this system for the first time during our Annual Assembly [The first of the new IH&RA] in Mexico to elect the New Board of Directors.
As a President I don’t intend to stay away from the IH&RA, I am very active and I will maintain this activity to achieve my goal of having IH&RA the “ONLY” representative of the Private hospitality sectors with the International Organization Worldwide. I started since last year to visit all our members in the five continents, and meet all of you during your conclave and your local General Assembly or local activities. I went already to Great Britain, Turkey, India, Macedonia, Egypt, Bulgaria, USA. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and listen to you, and to your concerns regionally and worldwide. I already covered, The Americas, Europe, North Africa, the Middle-East and some countries in Asia, I will continue in 2008 to meet all of you.
I did consolidate IH&RA position with major International Associations as UN, UNWTO, ISO, IOM, IOE, UNDP, UNEP, and I am continuing my work to defend your interests in the International Level where we were very active as we did work on:
IH&RA and Natural disaster, IH&RA and terrorism, IH&RA and Climate Change, IH&RA and Exploitation of Children in Tourism, IH&RA and Sustainable Development, IH&RA and New destination, IH&RA and Health issues in F&B, IH&RA and Mobility of Labor Worldwide, etc …
|
 |
IH&RA will always survive, will always continue its Lobbying program, we were copied several times but never someone achieved our success. I am lucky to have with me in Geneva, Avi, Thalis, Rita and Karen. These people are our first cluster to achieve our success.
I do hope to see you all in Mexico. Please do not hesitate to call me personally for any concern that you may have, I will be glad to help and assist.

Sincerely
Dr. Ghassan AIDI
President

International Hotel & Restaurant Association (IH&RA) Moves Operations from Paris, France to New Offices in Geneva, Switzerland
February 2008 – At the end of last year, IH&RA move its operations from Paris/France to set up its new offices in Geneva, Switzerland, after 65 years of presence in France. IH&RA is now settled in the heart of the international organizations, facing the United Nations.
Why Geneva? IH&RA found in Geneva a practical location, in the very center of the world, highly convenient for its committee and for its members to join. The city offers both a business friendly environment and a cosmopolite atmosphere which, among others, fit to the IH&RA’s values.
Dr. Ghassan Aïdi, President of IH&RA, did point out that “the decision to transfer our operations center to Geneva after being so long in Paris, is because we need to move toward “The next Generation”, upgrade and modernize our administrative structure.
It was a tough decision but the move and the relocation went smoothly as we had the best help from the Canton and the City of Geneva. It was a challenge for IH&RA but I had a wonderful team from Switzerland that helps me with the installation of our premises.
The President also said “Now we are getting closer to the United Nations as our association is officially recognized as the representative of the private hospitality sector. We will concentrate on our objectives for 2008. Inform, represent, support and defend the position of the hospitality industry worldwide”.
