The highly anticipated Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles opens on April 2, 2010 as the first luxury hotel of its caliber in Downtown Los Angeles. The opening of the hotel is the final piece of L.A. LIVE, the $2.5 billion sports, residential and entertainment district, which was inaugurated with the opening of STAPLES Center in 1999.

When opened in 2012, the property will be the first high-quality, internationally-branded mid-tier hotel in the area.

Risk management is the process of evaluating a hotel's risk exposure and developing strategies for mitigating those. A hotel owner and operator would be far better off if they could eliminate all the possibilities of an incident on their property.

Cornell Study Urges Hoteliers to Be Realistic Regarding Guest Self Service Kiosks
As more hospitality companies implement some form of IT-based self-service, many are seeking to reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and possibly reach new customer segments. A new hospitality study from Cornell's Center for Hospitality Research (CHR) points out that when self-service functions correctly, it does enhance guest satisfaction and improves hotels' financial results. However, when a problem occurs with the self-service computer system, guests are far less willing to return, much less pay a premium rate.

Hilton Worldwide Completes Restructuring of Existing Debt
Hilton Worldwide announced today that it has completed a restructuring of substantially all of its existing debt. The restructuring extends the maturity of this debt until November 2015 and reduces the company’s total debt by nearly $4 billion. The transaction was effected through the purchase and retirement of $1.8 billion of debt and the conversion of $2.1 billion of junior mezzanine debt to preferred equity.
