CLIMATE CHANGE
Issue
Technically speaking, "climate change" refers to the variation in the Earth’s global climate over time. Currently, at the international level and in the media, the term is in fact used to refer to changes in contemporary climate, including the rise in the Earth’s average surface temperature (called "global warming").
While the term “climate change” is used with a presumption of human causation, “climate variability” is used for non-human caused variations.
Global warming is defined as the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and in its projected continuation. This rise is attributed to the observed increased in greenhouse gas concentrations, which leads to the warming of the Earth’s surface and lower atmosphere. Greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone. Some of these gases occur naturally in the atmosphere, others are the result of human activities.
There is now compelling scientific evidence indicating that global warming poses a serious challenge to social and economic development in all countries. Tourism and hospitality development is no exception.
