Summer Scholarship Programme:
For a number of years the FFF ran an annual summer scholarship programme for deserving young professionals in the hotel and restaurant industry. This was financed by donations (value $US 4000 each) for individual scholarships from individual hotels and Affiliate Members (providing approximately $US 35 000) and by funds raised through the annual IH&RA congress (mainly the Silent Auction, breakfast Mini Chat sessions, along with a voluntary contribution from registration fees, amounting in all to around $US 15 000). Participating hotel schools also provided discounts on tuition. Every year 10 to 15 scholarships were awarded and in this way, some 200 young people, particularly from developing countries, were able to improve their skills through training in reputable hotel school Summer programmes. The scholarship programme was self-financing and showed a small increase of income over expenditure year on year
Youth Career Initiative
The Youth Career Initiative (YCI) uses resources within the hotel industry to prepare young people in poor countries for careers in hospitality and other service sectors. The aim is to ensure participants’ long-term social and economic security by providing them with professional training and experience that enhances their earning potential, their self-esteem and their ability to make informed decisions about their lives.
