UNIVERSAL FEDERATION OF TRAVEL AGENTS’ ASSOCIATIONS - UFTAA

UFTAA is an international trade association that unifies and acts as a spokesperson for travel agencies and tour operators the world over.

Mission

- To represent the views of its members and support their interests.
- To take action when appropriate to assist in the development of sustainable tourism.
- To enhance and increase the image of its members and provide benefits to them.
- To be an international forum for addressing matters affecting worldwide travel and tourism.

 Membership
The National Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators in a member country is the basic voting member of the Federation. At present, UFTAA has 114 members associations in 113 countries and additional Affiliate members in a total of 121 countries. The Statutes of the Federations allows for more than one association per country.

Background
UFTAA was founded in 1966 as a result of a merger of two large world organisations, FIAV and UOTAA.

 Funding
Member contributions.

Structure
UFTAA is managed and operated by its member associations. Each National Association sends delegates to the General Assembly, which as the highest body determines UFTAA’s general policy and elects the UFTAA Board of Directors. The Board internally elects an Executive committee comprising the President, a Vice-President, Vice-President Finance and two members. Board members are elected for two years with a maximum of four terms.
The Secretary General is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Federation and the Secretariat.

 Fields of activity
UFTAA acts as a spokesperson for the travel agent industry at large. UFTAA is able to effectively represent travel agents and tour operator’s views on both inbound and outbound travel by continuous dialogue and consultation with other international organisations.

 Relationship with IH&RA
IH&RA and UFTAA have a long-standing relationship formalised by a Liaison Committee, comprising members of both organisations, which meets regularly to discuss matters of common interest.

UFTAA and IH&RA have jointly drawn up a “Code of Practice on the Relations between Hoteliers and Travel Agents” ratified by both Presidents in 1999. In the absence of a contract and when non-contractual terms are under dispute, the “Code of Practice” seeks to provide useful guidance to hoteliers and travel agents with a view to promoting harmonious relations and avoiding possible misunderstandings or disputes.
